February 13, 2025, José Julio Gómez, the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to China, met with Mr. Song Kui, general manager of Qingdao Siou International Trading Co., LTD., DAMALL International, in Beijing, and discussed the cooperation between energy projects and affordable housing projects in Dominica.

During the meeting, The ambassador introduced the Dominican Republic's policy of attracting investment, and he introduced that the Dominican Republic is a country that insists on development, and President Louis Abinader made positive commitments and endorsements to strengthen economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The joint delegation of SUS Environment and Great Wall Industry Group introduced the development, technical advantages and successful project cases in the fields of energy development and housing construction to the ambassador. The ambassador stressed that the Dominican Republic has always been committed to green environmental protection and sustainable development, actively exploring new energy technologies, and looks forward to cooperating with Chinese companies to solve problems such as power shortage and environmental governance in the Dominican Republic.
The ambassador highly commended our professional competence and international influence in the relevant fields. He detailed the urgent needs of the Dominican Republic in energy, saying that during his term of office, he will strengthen cooperation with Chinese enterprises to jointly promote the economic and social development of the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is located on the eastern part of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea, bordering Haiti to the west, the Caribbean Sea to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the north, and facing Puerto Rico across the Mona Strait to the east. It is the largest economy in the Caribbean region, with a GDP growth rate of 5.2% in 2024, which is one of the fastest -growing economies in Latin America in recent years. It is the top destination for foreign investment and tourists in the Caribbean region. Tourism, export processing industry and remittances are the main pillars of its economy. With a land area of 48,734 square kilometers and a population of 11,229 million (2022), it established diplomatic relations with China at ambassadorial level on May 1, 2018. The gross domestic product (GDP) of the Dominican Republic is 114 billion USD, making it a jewel embedded in the American continent, endowed with unique natural resources and a superior geographical location. As a key hub connecting North and South America, it holds immense development potential.
